Math Games

Come explore different mathematical concepts each week through games. Each class will explore mathat various stages and experience levels. Concepts will include fractions, money, multiplication, volume, and more. It all adds up to a ton of fun!​

Answers in Genesis
Jessica Embry
This course will study science that proves that creation and the events in Genesis are a scientific reality! Ken Ham's material with compelling biblical answers from Answers in Genesis will be the primary source. We will discuss where the dinosaurs went and why evolutionary dating of the earth is not a fact. Upon completion students will understand how believing in the Bible and loving science go hand-in-hand! You can check out other sources from this ministry at https://answersingenesis.org/
An optional group field trip to the Ark on October 13-14 will be offered for families and their children ages 9 and up. https://arkencounter.com/

Human Body

This class will provide the children opportunities to learn about their bodies. It will be a very hands on class so they can grasp not just where things are located anatomically but also their purpose and function. Lots of STEM-like activities will be performed in this class.

Kids in the Kitchen
Christie Moser
Kids in the Kitchen is a fun learning experience in which students develop culinary skills through preparing simple entrée foods, snacks, and desserts. In between lessons in the kitchen, emphasis will be placed on etiquette, manners, and nutrition. Bible devotions will go along with the culinary fun. At the end of the semester, students will have compiled a fun recipe book to take home.

Biblical Science

Biblical science will be a fun hands on way to learn about how science shows how Good God is. There will be experiments and fun crafts we will all do together. The kids will leave with more knowledge of who God is and more knowledge of scientific facts!

Beginning Crochet

Want to learn how to make scarves, hats, blankets, stuffed animals, and more? It can all be done with the basics you learn in this class. We will learn about using different hooks and yarn, how to read patterns, as well as the basic stitches that make up most patterns. Parents are welcome too!

Staying Active

Staying active is a fun gym class for good listeners and kids ready to break a sweat. At the beginning of every class we will do a 10-15 minute workout. These exercises will be push ups, lunges, squats, and more. We will also stretch and do some conditioning. Then for the rest of class time, we will play a team game. These games include kick ball, wall ball, flag tag, capture the flag, and many more friendly competitive games. In this class you will need to follow directions, have good sportsmanship, and try your very best. Please bring your sneakers, a water bottle, and your listening ears every week. Can’t wait to start working out with you!

Basic Photography

Learn to use your camera and it's settings to create beautiful photos. We will learn the basic camera settings, simple use of natural light, simple angles and learn a few fun tricks along the way! Photography extends beyond the class room and will be a fun skill to last a lifetime! Parents are welcome too!

Picture Playbook
Emily Palethorpe
In Picture Book Play, noted children’s books will come alive each week, including The Mitten, An Old Ukrainian Folktale by Jan Brett, The Story about Ping by Marjorie Flack, The Little House by Virginia Lee Burton, Blueberries for Sal by Robert McCloskey, Corduroy by Don Freeman and The Biggest Story by Kevin DeYoung. We will explore the book’s characters, setting, plot, and themes through brief class discussions/narratives, simple dramatizations, and puppet shows. We will also have fun playing related board games, singing a song, or dancing a dance from the book’s setting. When time allows, the class will work on an art activity related to the story, including drawing, painting, print-making, cut-collage, and cardboard construct. Come join Picture Book Play, where children creatively engage in books!

Baby Beats/Toddler Tunes

***NOTE: This class is for parent and child***
Want to interact in a relaxed, rhythmically fun way with your little one? In Parent & Baby/Toddler Tunes, we will play, sing, and move with our children while listening to music. Class activities will be varied, including tapping hand rhythm instruments, playing with scarves for peek-a-boo games, and listening to a wide assortment of musical styles, including folk, jazz and Classical. Each week, we will also view a fun picture book selection of a song. And, of course, we will learn a new lullabies and hymns to sing when the day is done!

Cursive Writing

Join us as we learn to write in cursive in this fun and encouraging class.
Studies show that cursive get your entire brain working. It improves motor control, and cursive writers tend to spell more accurately!
We will begin with lowercase letters, and soon we will be writing words and signing our names.
Practice makes perfect! And kids will have a blast being creative when they put pen to paper.

History with American Girls

This semester in History with American Girls class we will learn about the Great Depression with Kit Kitteridge and best friend, Ruthie Smithens. New this semester… there will even be mysteries to solve! Students will read all six Kit books, selected Kit mystery books, and the Ruthie book. Exploring language arts, students will write their own newspaper like Kit did AND write and act out a play. Using inspiration from Kit’s story and the Great Depression, we will complete two service projects. Cool crafts, delicious food, and exciting games (all based on the 1930s) will enhance the learning experience. Students are required to read the book selections at home. A book list will be given in advance so you can find them at the library or a local thrift store or online.

** Students will need to bring pencils, crayons or colored pencils, glue stick, and scissors. Each week a book will be required to be read before class (this list will be sent ahead of time).

Advanced Crocet

In this class we will build on the foundations learned in beginner crochet, learning more advanced techniques and patterns, such as tunisian, filet, making stuffed animals, and clothes. Students must already be able to single crochet and double crochet proficiently. This class will be student interest led, so we will explore different things based on what everyone wants to learn. Parents are welcome too!

Food for Thought

This class will discuss grocery shopping and taking note of cost per unit. What's the difference in fresh, canned, frozen, freeze dried, and organic foods? We will learn about our tastebuds and even have some blind taste testing to see if name brand foods really taste better!

Missionary Heroes & Adventures
Lynn Chavis
Missionary Heroes & Adventures is a dynamic study of some great men & women, heroes of our faith who helped share the love of Jesus in different parts of the world. Students will use a study guide/workbook titled "To Every Nation" from NotConsumed.com. Students will learn what a missionary is, and about their life & adventures to follow God's call to a new country. We will use a globe and world maps to identify these countries where the missionaries served, and discuss character traits like COMPASSION and PERSEVERANCE. This class will simply enrich your student's history, geography, and language arts studies.

** Students will be required to bring their own copy of Book 1- TO EVERY NATION from Not Consumed.

Character in Action

Each week students will be given a new character trait to focus on with a scripture or bible story. They will then have a chance to put good character in action by having friendly competitions in field day type events and playing games such as dodgeball, tag, etc.

Art

This course will educate on the history of art while incorporating education on the elements and techniques that art offers. Each week they will practice these elements and techniques in drawing, painting, using pastel oils and modeling clay. (Same techniques as spring but different art projects)

Around the World

In this class we will visit a different country each week to learn about that county and do a craft pertaining to that country. This will introduce students to different cultures. We will compare those cultures to our cultures and talk about the beauty of cultures being different. We will discuss landscape, landmarks, and more.

Intro to Biblical Hebrew
Brandon Black
This class serves to introduce the student to the Hebrew language. The emphasis will be on learning the basics of biblical Hebrew, such as letters and pronunciation, and a limited amount of vocabulary. The class will feature the use of songs in Hebrew to learn words and memorize scripture. There are no required resources for this class - weekly practice exercises will be available for download.

Beginning Girls Volleyball

This energetic class focuses on learning basic volleyball skills. Focusing on teamwork and positivity, girls will make friends and have fun as they learn the rules of the game and practice passing, setting, and serving.

Intro to Algebra

I am looking forward to introducing young mathematicians to the world of Algebra! Each week a fundamental Algebra topic will be introduced with optional homework to reinforce the material and will finish up with a final Jeopardy game. No matter where your child is in math I hope they will learn to enjoy the subject as much as I do.

Hand Embroidery

In this class we will learn how to make beautiful artwork in the form of hand embroidered cloth. We will cover how to prep your work, select the right materials, lots of different stitches, following a pattern, even how to design and transfer your own original pattern! Parents are welcome too!

Toddler Time

We are going to dance, play, and explore! During this class we will dance, read a story, craft, and explore sensory boxes. We will have weekly themes and the book, craft and sensory boxes will go along with each theme. We will start each class with movement through musical play, then read a story, followed by a craft, and then end the class exploring sensory boxes. Parents are encouraged to stay and play! Some themes from last semester were fireflies, dinosaurs, farms, and spring flowers.

Little Zoologist

Students will learn about a different animal each week. We will cover their habitat, diet, characteristics and more. Each week we will also make a small craft pertaining to each animal. Each month would have a different theme (rain forest, desert, grasslands, etc.)

Let's Get Cooking

Let’s get cooking this semester at Archway! The goal of the “Let’s Get Cooking!” class is for each student to be able to prepare and serve meals with confidence at home. The normal class time has been extended which allows us to explore some classic baking as well. In between cooking lessons, emphasis will be placed on meal planning, etiquette, and nutrition along with Bible devotions. Students will build a resourceful booklet of the semester’s lessons and recipes to take home.

Sing, Say, Spanish Play

Si! Hola! Uno, dos, tres….
Almost everyone can remember a little something from their elementary days in a beginner Spanish class. In SING SAY SPANISH PLAY students will be speaking Spanish the very first day! Every week we will have a theme and an action (verb); for example colors, numbers, days of the week, & foods. Actions like eat, play, sing, & say, and a lot more (mucho mas). Parents will definitely join in the fun too! You will want to be in the know about all that your students are singing & saying and learning in Espanol. We will also watch some videos in class and hopefully at home for listening practice. We will do a few weeks of crafts as well. This class will be unique, but most importantly it will be fun!
