Recorder Rally

Both beginning and returning students to this past fall's Recorder Rally Class will learn to play the recorder. With the goal to learn one song per week, students will learn how to read music, develop music technical skills, and have fun making melodies on this simple woodwind instrument. Students will break into small groups to play for one another, and students will even learn to play some of these same songs on the keyboard.
**There is no supply fee for returning students; the supply fee for new students is $15 for the purchase of a recorder and method book.

Once Upon a Scrapbook

If you want to practice your creativity and create your own photo stories, come join this fun class! Over the course of 12 weeks, we will make 4 mini scrapbooks. Each booklet will have a different theme such as family and pet pictures, your favorite activities, vacation or birthday pictures, and one other theme the students will choose. We will practice putting colors, and patterns together, following directions, using scrapbooking tools and using our creative skills. I will provide stickers, paper, booklets, washi tape, and scrapbooking tools. Students will bring in fun photos to create a scrapbook story.
**students will need to bring markers, pens, pencils, glue sticks, scissors and printed photos

Latin Fun and Games

Learn Latin while singing, dancing, and playing games in a group setting. SongSchool Latin will guide students through 100 vocab words while matching the energy of small children! The benefits of early exposure to a foreign language are many. Also, since Latin forms the root of many English words, learning Latin can increase vocabulary.

Middle School Team Time

Middle School Team Time will focus on group games that are generally not considered sports. We will start each class with a team building challenge and then divide the class into teams to play a variety of games in the gym and outside. We will focus on good sportsmanship, collaborative problem solving, and conflict resolution strategies.
**students will need to wear running shoes and bring a water bottle

Art Exploration

This class will be a fun and engaging way for young artists to express themselves. Each week we will highlight a different style of Art (Impressionism, Abstract, Cubism) and students will create a masterpiece of their own relating to the style.

Let's Get Cooking!

“Let’s Get Cooking” is back this semester at Archway! The goal of this class is for each student to be able to prepare and serve meals with confidence at home (with adult supervision, of course). In between cooking lessons, emphasis will be placed on meal planning, etiquette, and nutrition along with Bible devotions. We will wrap up the semester with our own version of “Chopped Jr.” to creatively express what they have learned in class. Students will receive a booklet of the semester’s lessons and recipes.
**Students will need an apron and colored pencils or crayons

Advanced Crochet

In this class, we will be exploring several Advanced forms of Crochet, including Tunisian, mochila, interlocking, planned pooling, and mosaic. Students must be able to do basic stitches already. Parents are welcome too!

Tea Time with Beatrix Potter

Come join us for a semester filled with tea/juice, finger foods and wonderful Beatrix Potter stories. After refreshments are served, Beatrix stories will be read aloud. Dress up, big hats and jewelry are always welcome. The last day we will have a tea party (Mom and Me).

Toddler Time

Toddlers (and preschoolers) love to play and explore! In this class we will sing, dance, read books, craft, and more! We will have weekly "themes" and plan our activities to go along with our themes. We will start our class out with some dancing and musical instrument play, then read a book or two, then end with our craft or other activity. Some themes from last semester were: dinosaurs, 5 senses, and gardening. I look forward to another fun semester with our youngest Archway friends!(moms/dads/caregivers/baby siblings welcome to stay and play)

Practical Math

In this class we will review and/or learn math concepts that we can apply in our everyday life.
The students will have labs in which they will create something using the skills taught in class, allowing them to experience the application of their knowledge in practical ways.

Song Play

Get ready to sing, move, and play! In Song Play class, students will explore music concepts by playing instruments, such as melody bells, bongos, tambourines, rhythm sticks, and shakers. They will listen and respond with movement to rhythmic/melodic patterns played by piano, and they will sing Scripture songs and folk music to guitar accompaniment. Class time consists of a huge variety of music activities; parents are invited to stay and participate or observe. To reinforce what is learned in class, students will each receive a music CD [Teach Me Your Paths] for at home listening.

More! Mas Espanol!

Back by request MORE! MAS ESPANOL is another learning & speaking Spanish conversation class. This class offers a unique opportunity for returning students to continue to learn and practice more, but NEW STUDENTS as well can jump right in. New students are welcome and encouraged to begin speaking Spanish on the first day of class with HOLA, and introducing themselves. In this class we will build a basic Spanish vocabulary for everyday things in life like foods, family, and activities like eating, studying, and playing with friends and family; all useful to make learning a second language more fun. We will learn together in groups and the ultimate goal to feel comfortable speaking what we are learning is key. We take “talking in class” seriously and use it constructively to introduce ourselves, ask questions, say what we do and don’t like, and MORE, maybe even singing some songs in Espanol!
**Students will need to bring index cards, colored pencils, a sturdy 3-ring binder with notebook

History with American Girls

This semester in History with American Girls class we’ll learn about community and friendship through the stories of Cécile and Marie-Grace, set in New Orleans in 1853. Then we’re off to 1954 with Maryellen Larkin, an imaginative girl growing up in Daytona Beach, Florida. Crafts, food, and games will enhance this exciting and educational history class. There will even be a sewing project. We’ll conclude the semester with a fun sock-hop! Students are required to read the book selections at home. A book list will be given in advance so you can find them at the library or a local thrift store or online.
**Students will need to bring pencils, crayons or colored pencils, glue stick, and scissors. Each week a book will be required to be read before class(this list will be sent ahead of time).

Fun with Art

This course will educate on the history of art while incorporating education on the elements and techniques that art offers. Each week they will practice these elements and techniques in drawing, painting, using pastel oils and modeling clay. During the last class we will have an art gallery for parents to view all of the art projects they completed during the semester.
**students will need to bring scissors, colored pencils, crayons and markers.

Tool Time:
An Intro into Trades

Tool Time provides a brief overview of a variety of different construction trades. We will spend 2 weeks on each unit, beginning with safety as our top priority. The first week of each unit will provide a description of each trade, some of the typical tools used, and some basic methods and applications. The second week we'll put that information to use with a hands-on activity where students will be able to put their mechanical aptitude to the test! Some of the trades we'll be covering include HVAC, electrical, plumbing and carpentry/framing.

Preschool Storytime

Reading aloud brings a love of books to your child and broadens their world. Children will encounter colors, shapes, letters, and more as we learn together. We will enjoy books, flannel boards, puppets, activities, crafts, and classic children's songs, as well as new ones. (Think "Baby Shark.")

Hand Lettering

Hand lettering is a historical art, from ancient Islamic writings through illuminated Bibles and modern calligraphy. Come learn techniques on how to letter and tools that were used to create some of the most beautiful handwriting in history.
*Note: this is NOT a handwriting class. Students should be able to use writing utensils well but no art experience is needed.*

Choir FUNdamentals

Singing in choir is fun! Students will learn how to sing with proper vocal technique, work together as a team, and understand basic music theory and musical terms. Students will perform songs for their parents at the end of the semester, and they will have the opportunity to audition to perform as a solo or with a small group with friends from class.
**Students will need to bring a 1 inch black 3-ring binder and pencils.

Navigating Healthcare

This is a life skills class to help students navigate the world of medical information. Dealing with medical situations of all types can be a huge learning curve, but it happens in the real world. The goal of the class will be that students will have a broad array of information about the medical field from which to begin their research should the need arise at any point in their lifetime. We will discuss types of doctors, hospital care and medical jobs, how insurance works, home healthcare, first aid basics, CPR introduction, over-the-counter vs. prescription medicine, common diagnosis, and more. Guest speakers will join several classes. The class will end with presentations by students for parents on a healthcare topic of their choice. Students that are interested in studying medicine as well as those who are not will benefit from this basic life skills knowledge. This class would benefit anyone who might find themselves in helping the care of an elderly parent or loved one.

Free Market Skills

This class will be using the Free Market curriculum from the Tuttle Twins to examine needs versus wants, what makes something valuable, and much more! This is a great introduction to how the free market works.

American Heros

In this class students will learn about each branch of the Armed Forces. We will take two weeks to learn about what makes each branch special. At the end of the course, students will present a final project meant to have them leave the classroom feeling proud of their American Heroes.

Beginning Girls Volleyball

This energetic class focuses on learning basic volleyball skills. Focusing on teamwork and positivity, girls will make friends and have fun as they learn the rules of the game and practice passing, setting, and serving.

Beginning Crochet

Want to learn how to make scarves, hats, blankets, stuffed animals, and more? It can all be done with the basics you learn in this class. We will learn about using different hooks and yarn, how to read patterns, as well as the basic stitches that make up most patterns. Parents are welcome too!

Tiny Book Club

Each week in Tiny Book Club we will have story time. We will also do circle time and simple crafts relating to the stories.

Kids in the Kitchen

Kids in the Kitchen is a fun learning experience in which students develop culinary skills through preparing simple entrée foods, snacks, and desserts. In between lessons in the kitchen, emphasis will be placed on etiquette, manners, and nutrition. Bible devotions will go along with the culinary fun. At the end of the semester, students will have compiled a fun recipe book to take home.

Sing Say Spanish Play

Si! Hola! Uno, dos, tres….
Almost everyone can remember a little something from their elementary days in a beginner Spanish class. In SING SAY SPANISH PLAY students will be speaking Spanish the very first day! Every week we will have a theme and an action (verb); for example colors, numbers, days of the week, & foods. Actions like eat, play, sing, & say, and a lot more (mucho mas). Parents will definitely join in the fun too! You will want to be in the know about all that your students are singing & saying and learning in Espanol. We will also watch some videos in class and hopefully at home for listening practice. We will do a few weeks of crafts as well. This class will be unique, but most importantly it will be fun!
**students will need to bring colored pencils, glue sticks, and scissors.
