Fit for Life

In "Fit for Life," students will embark on a dynamic journey to understand the importance of health and fitness in their everyday lives. This course combines engaging physical activities with essential health education to promote overall well-being. Students will participate in a variety of sports, fitness routines, and team-building exercises. Emphasis will be placed on cultivating lifelong habits, including understanding the role of exercise, balanced nutrition, and mental health in achieving overall wellness.

This class is designed to teach kids a variety of team games so they know the rules and can play them with other kids! We will be playing non-sport team games such as capture the flag, kickball, Simon says, variations of tag and many others!

Spanish 101

Being bilingual opens many social and professional doors! Learning a new language should always be a fun and pleasant experience! This course is designed to introduce the grammar aspect of the Spanish learning process in a fun and dynamic way. In this class students will start building a strong foundation for more advanced Spanish courses at a high school level. We will slowly introduce simple grammar structures through reading, writing, listening and conversation. We will use activities as a fun and dynamic tool to promote participation and to learn and practice grammar concepts. There will be great opportunities to practice listening skills from a native Spanish speaker as well as correct pronunciation in Spanish. Students that have had some exposure to Spanish vocabulary, and conversational classes will benefit the most from this class, but all students interested in jumping into the learning process of the grammatical aspect of the language are welcome to join the class!

Beginning Photography

Learn to use your camera and it's settings to create beautiful photos. We will learn the basic camera settings, simple use of natural light, simple angles and learn a few fun tricks along the way! Photography extends beyond the class room and will be a fun skill to last a lifetime! Parents are welcome too! ​
**Students will be required to bring their own personal camera.

Picture Playbook

In Picture Book Play, noted children's books will come alive each week, including Corduroy by Don Freeman, The Little House by Virginia Lee Burton, and The Biggest Story by Kevin DeYoung. We will explore the book's characters, settings, plots and themes through brief class discussions/narratives, simple dramatizations, and puppet shows. We will also have fun playing related board games, singing a song, or dancing a dance from the book's setting. When time allows, the class will work on an art activity related to the story, including drawing, painting print-making, cut-collage, and cardboard construct. Come join Picture Book Play where children creatively engage in books.

Heroes and Legends

Studying heroes is a great way to enjoy history! We will hear the stories of famous heroes of yesteryear. Robinhood, John Henry, Big John, William Tell, Johnny Appleseed, Odysseus, Betsy Ross, Paul Bunyan and Babe the Big Blue Ox, Pecos Bill, Jack Tales, and more! Paul Bunyan and Pecos Bill are classic "tall tales" of exploits that get larger with each retelling. We will learn how Paul scooped out Lake Superior, and logged all of North Dakota. Pecos Bill lassoed a tornado. We will write our own tall, tall exploits.

Bible Science

​Dynamic truths found in the Bible are evident through many simple and exciting science demonstrations. These demonstrations can reveal the order and grandeur of creation and the laws of nature. Weekly classes will include introducing a key verse from Scripture, a Bible lesson, and an activity with a science explanation. The main goal of this class is for the science activities to make Bible truths unforgettable. Students will listen, read, and wonder. Active listening will help students follow instructions, ask necessary questions, and enjoy participating in hands-on science activities. Together, students can learn BIBLE TRUTHS THROUGH SCIENCE, and help them begin to affirm God's power in & throughout our world.

Life Skills

In this class we will help get your teen ready for the "real world". Knowing how to take care of themselves paves a way for success. A healthy lifestyle stems from good sleep, eating habits and exercise. Budgets and meal planning mean more money in your pocket. Planning vacations or parties in advance saves money and sets goals. Organizing, Time management and Problem solving skills are not always enjoyable tasks but, ones we need to make life easier. Party Planning, Money Management, babysitting, car and home maintenance are just a few of the topics we will cover.

Kids in the Kitchen

Kids in the Kitchen is a fun learning experience in which students develop culinary skills through preparing simple entrée foods, snacks, and desserts. In between lessons in the kitchen, emphasis will be placed on etiquette, manners, and nutrition. Bible devotions will accompany the culinary fun. At the end of the semester, students will have compiled a fun recipe book to take home.

True Beauty

In this engaging class, girls will explore and celebrate their God-given beauty, both inside and out. Using Proverbs 31 as our foundation, we’ll focus on the deeper qualities that define true beauty—compassion, obedience, kindness, discernment, faith, hope, love, humility, purpose, and more. Each week, we’ll break down these concepts, exploring the intended meaning behind the verses and their relevance to building strong, meaningful relationships and friendships. Additionally, this class includes practical beauty and health guidance led by a student of cosmetology. We'll learn how to apply makeup in a natural and confident way, emphasizing that beauty goes beyond makeup and hairstyles. Topics will include understanding skin types, the importance of skincare for both the face and body, and the impact of nutrition on hair and skin health. We’ll also discuss selecting the right products and the importance of being aware of potentially harmful chemicals in beauty products.

Advanced Photography

You can’t put your camera down because it makes your heart sing. Let’s review basics while building on your skillset. In this class we will improve our photography. Learn how to set up a shot. Learn how to judge our own work and adjust to make it better. We will build our skills each week to use manual mode. We will learn how to do some quick edits using photography software. **Students will be required to bring their own personal camera.

This class is designed to provide a fun and dynamic environment for students to learn and practice basic math concepts such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, place value, comparing numbers, patterns, problem solving, numerical expressions, time, fractions, real word connections, and more. Games might be used as a resource to help keep students engaged in building strategic thinking and developing problem solving skills. This class is intended to reinforce math foundational concepts and to provide an opportunity for students to build fluency in an engaging and enjoyable way.

History with American Girls

History with American Girls class is a fun way to learn about American history, nurture the enjoyment of reading, and broaden reading skills. This semester we will learn about Native American life and the Nez Perce tribe through the stories of Kaya, a Nez Perce girl growing up in 1764. Creative crafts, delicious foods, exciting games, and a service project will enhance the learning experience. Students will read all six Kaya series books and selected Kaya mystery books. Students are required to read the book selections at home. A book list will be given in advance so you can find them at the library, a local thrift store, or online.

Players will learn the fundamentals of soccer including motor and coordination skills (dribbling, passing, etc) and cognitive and attention skills, all in a social and rewarding atmosphere. There is small grassy field we will use near the pavilion for these activities. We will go outside as much as possible even if the ground is slightly damp so please wear appropriate clothing. On inside days, we will discuss the game and do activities in the classroom.

Bible Beasts

This class will familiarize the students with various beasts and creatures found in the biblical text, many of which exhibit physical, mythological, and/or spiritual traits. We will explore if, when, and how these creatures existed in history and how they were perceived in the cultural context of ancient Israel. Over the course of the twelve weeks each student will build their own Biblical Bestiary and make their own poster of creatures.

Everybody needs a rock collection. We will study different rocks and minerals, and we'll discover which class of rocks they belong to: igneous, sedimentary, or metamorphic. Students will enjoy learning about the layers of the earth. Discover how volcanoes and glaciers change the landscape, and about meteorites and fossils.

Mighty Readers

Who doesn’t love listening to or reading a good story? Mighty Readers can bring their own Bible and workbooks to class each week, practice finding the story Bible verse, & gain confidence reading aloud with a partner in small groups. They will read Bible stories, ask and answer questions, and almost every week an object lesson or craft will help students better understand story details & characters, vocabulary, story sequence, and more. By the end of this class, students will have a favorite Bible verse and/or story to retell in our reading & memory showcase on the last day. Weekly homework in student workbooks will reinforce learning and allow parents time to help & encourage their Mighty Readers at home. Mighty Readers will learn by actively listening, following directions, reading aloud, and respectfully participating in class.

Let’s get cooking this semester at Archway! The goal of this class is for each student to prepare and serve meals confidently at home. In between cooking lessons, emphasis will be placed on meal planning, etiquette, and nutrition along with Bible devotions. We will wrap up the semester with our own version of “Chopped Jr.” to creatively express what students have learned in class. Students will build a resourceful booklet of the semester’s lessons and recipes to take home.
