Hands on Alphabet Fun

Learning the alphabet should never be boring! We will explore letters, sounds, music and art through hands on fun to learn the alphabet and prepare students to read!!
*please bring pencils and colored pencils to class.

Sensory and Stem

Preschool hands on playing with sensory and stem learning. Working on learning shapes, colors, numbers 1-20, Capital Letters.
Some activities would include: Legos, instant snow, play dough, water beads, slime, rice & bean, marshmallow/banana, finger painting, popcorn kennels vs popped, noodles dry & cooked, beads/noodle necklace. Solar cup tower, egg cart plants, dominoes, float or sink, popsicle sticks.
*please bring pencil box with crayons, pencils, and scissors.

History with American Girls

This semester we’ll learn about pioneer life through the stories of Kirsten, a Swedish immigrant whose family settles on the prairie in 1854. Then we’re off to 1904, learning about innovation, generosity, and family through the stories of Samantha. Crafts, food, and games will enhance this fun and educational history class. Students are required to read the book selections at home. A booklist will be given in advance so you can find them at the library or a local thrift store or online.
*please bring selected American Girl books, pencil, glue stick, crayons or colored pencils, and scissors

Running Relays

How many different ways can you imagine a 4 -legged relay being run? What if we added a prop, like a book ( balance on your head and walk, balance on your back and crawl, balance on one palm and skip, etc)? Every week your child will be participating in different, FUN, relays. They will even have the opportunity to design their own 4-legged relay to show the class! The name of the game is Fun!
*please dress for gym activities

Speak Espanol! Si!

Speaking a new language can be fun and exciting! That’s the main goal of this beginner plus conversation class. Learning to speak Spanish is about more than just knowing how to say a few words. In this class, we will learn and practice a lot of words and useful phrases in short conversations. We will learn and practice how to say useful phrases like, “Me gusta pizza, y tu?” (I like pizza, and you?) OR “Hace frio hoy!” (It’s cold today.) AND also how to ask questions like, “¿Adonde es al bano? (Where is the bathroom?) And “¿Que hora es?” (What time is it?). Answering these simple questions, singing songs, listening to cultural music, and learning interesting facts about Spanish-speaking countries are just a few fun and educational activities students will enjoy in la clase de Speak Espanol! Si!

Animal Kingdom

Join us as we travel the globe exploring the animal kingdom. We will learn about classifying animals, threatened/endangered animals, life cycles, ecosystems/habitats/biomes, food chains and webs and much more. We will travel through jungles, savannas, tundras, deserts, grasslands and other exotic (and not so exotic) regions of the world.
*please bring: 1" binder, dividers, notebook paper, pencil, crayons or color pencils, scissors. Book about assigned topic (will be picked or drawn in the first class and will be needed by the 3rd class)

Beginner Crochet

Want to learn how to make scarves, hats, blankets, stuffed animals, and more? It can all be done with the basics you learn in this class. We will learn about using different hooks and yarn, how to read patterns and charts, as well as all of the foundation stitches that make up most patterns.

Words, Words, Words: Morphology and Vocabulary

Words, Words, Words will introduce students to the beauty of the English language by studying its origins, affixes, and a number of Greek and Latin roots. Knowing these elements of language help to grow our vocabulary and enrich comprehension.

Preschool Storytime
Amy Barr
Join us for storytime! Parents and preschoolers will enjoy read-alouds, puppets, flannel board stories, songs, and rhymes with Miss Amy.
Kids will giggle through stories and get their wiggles out with children’s songs, (think “Baby Shark”) and make a craft to take home.
*Please note this is the same curriculum as the 11am class

Super Heroes and Heroines

What is a hero or heroine? The dictionary says it is "a person noted for courageous acts or nobility of character." The Bible has lots of heroes and heroines, people God used to do really super things. Each week in this gym class, students will learn about a Biblical hero or heroine. Students will have a ball playing games and sports all while learning how they can be a super hero or heroine for God. Dress comfortably as students will get quite a workout.
*please bring crayons or colored pencils, water bottle and make sure to dress for gym activities!

Stem Projects Related to Reading

This course will allow students to be given a challenge based on a short story. They will then be given supplies and will brain storm on how to achieve there goal. Then they will implement their plan. After completing the task, they will get to test there theory.
For example: The three little pigs story would be read, then the challenge would be to create a house out of supplies provided that can with stand the blowing of the wolf blowing (ie: Fan).
*please bring any extra craft supplies, empty toliet paper rolls, empty paper towel rolls, clean milk cartons, beads, foil.
*** advise wearing play clothing (something comfy but okay to get paint, glue etc on)

Song Play 2*

Get ready to sing, move, and play! In Song Play class, students will explore music concepts by playing instruments, such as melody bells, bongos, tambourines, rhythm sticks, and shakers. They will listen and respond with movement to rhythmic/melodic patterns played by piano, and they will sing Scripture songs and folk music to guitar accompaniment. Class time consists of a huge variety of music activity; parents are invited to stay and participate or observe. To reinforce what is learned in class, students will each receive a music CD [A New Commandment] for at home listening.

The Fun of Cursive Writing

Is Cursive a lost art? Not if we can help it! We will be learning letter formation, how to combine letters to write words and how to decipher letters you see. Students will master writing their name in cursive and writing letters to a classmate for practice in reading and writing cursive.

Real Food Comes Dirty

In this class, students will learn about the beauty of real, dirty food! Explore how to grow your own organic foods, learn about natural fertilization methods, and common garden pests. We will also cover topics such as regenerative agriculture, permaculture principles, harvesting and preserving foods, seed saving, and so much more!
*please bring pencils, crayons, and a folder with pockets

Hands on Math & Science
Lynn Chavis
Learning math & science through hands-on and class group projects can simply make everything more fun. Students will work to complete 8-10 different projects that involve applying math skills, introducing geometry, patterns, fractions, measurement, even music, and more. Learning math and science vocabulary and using simple tools like magnets will encourage classmates to study and prepare each week at home. Being able to focus and follow teacher-led directions is required for the student’s success in this class.

Pottery 101
Nina Otterness
Pottery 101 will cover the basic techniques of ceramic construction. In the first few classes we will go over pinch, coil, and slab methods of hand built vessels. In the last few classes we will cover decorating techniques and glazing. Students will be encouraged to devise their own final project using their new skills and my assistance. Projects can be functional (mugs, bowls, vases) or sculptural (animals, fairy/frog houses, holiday decorations).
*Students will need to purchase a basic 8 piece set of tools to bring to each class.

What's the Plan 2?

In this course, we will explore careers matched to your child, research the path for those careers and make a plan to achieve it. Students will learn about who they are, who God has called them to be, and the importance of walking on that path. We will talk about hard and soft skills, what employers are looking for and how to make a resume. The first What's the Plan class is not a prerequisite but both are recommended.

Little Learning for Little Hands

In this class, students will learn key age-appropriate topics using manipulative objects including unifix cubes, blocks, legos, poms, and other items that students can hold in their hands to help with visual and hands-on learning. Topics covered will include alphabet, numbers, counting, colors, shapes, patterns, writing, density, etc.

Kids in the Kitchen

Kids in the Kitchen is a fun learning experience in which students develop culinary skills through preparing simple entrée foods, snacks, and desserts. In between lessons in the kitchen, emphasis will be placed on etiquette, manners, and nutrition. Bible devotions will go along with the culinary fun. At the end of the semester, students will have compiled a fun recipe book to take home.

Sounds of Music

Learn about different styles of music and what they are made of by going in-depth into one or two songs from each particular genre to study and practice singing them. Genres covered will be Hymns, Classical, Jazz, Country, Pop, and
Swing/Oldies. We also discussed the history, rhythms, uses, and other aspects of each type of music.

Crafty Kindness and Cardmaking
Lynn and Joy Chavis
Explore your creativity and thoughtfulness for others in this crafty card making class. Each week students will make one to two cards. We will have a short lesson about the theme of the type of card each week such as thankfulness, gratitude, congratulations, celebrations, seasons of life and sympathy to name a few. This class is a great way to foster creativity, but more importantly, practice following specific directions while working with peers and thinking of others. There will also be a friendly coloring competition.
*please bring markers, pencils, colored pencils, white cardstock paper and a set of index cards

Indoor Gym Sports

This Class will consist of a warm up, some basic exercises and stretches. Then we will discuss the general rules and play an indoor sport or game, such as dodgeball, kickball, freeze tag etc

Propulsion and Movement

This class would focus on an
introduction to Newtons Law and history of transportation from the Biblical donkeys and fishing boats to today's range of cars, trucks, ships, aircraft, and space travel. The class would then focus on propulsion of automobiles, ships and airplanes. The class would have labs including engine modeling, testing Newtons Laws,
We will also include the construction and use of a mousetrap car and model rocket kit.
